LS27 covers the town of Morley, formerly independent from Leeds many local residents still do not see themselves as part of the larger city as shown by the local politics where most of the Leeds City Council ward councillors represent the local party the Morley Borough Independents. The exception to this is the BNP who represent the interests of some in a mainly white area with large Asian communities to the south in Batley/Dewsbury and to the north in Beeston. Whilst there are areas of depravation on some of the council estates a typical Morley resident would be in non-professional employment, not rich but comfortably well off with a materialistic ethos to life.

Most of the churches in the town are struggling with small aging congregations and whilst the evangelical churches have the vision and opportunity for outreach they lack the manpower to deliver their aims. This is made worse because many evangelical Christians who live in LS27 actually attend churches in the cities of Leeds, Bradford and elsewhere.

The specific prayer issues for December are:

  • Day One scripture text calendar will be delivered to around 1600 pensioners on the Morley Elderly Action mailing list. Pray that the scripture texts will jog a memory of things taught many years ago in Sunday School and spur an interest to read the Bible and find salvation.
  • That the churches will make good evangelistic use of their Christmas Services which will be attended by many in the town who still see Christmas as one of the time in they year when they should go to church.
